Kia Optima Hybrid named to "Top 10 Cars Of The Year" list by Hispanic Motor Press Association
Optima Hybrid Takes Top Honors in the Alternative Powerplant Category
IRVINE, Calif., - The 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid recently was named to the Hispanic Motor Press Association's (HMPA) "Top 10 Cars of the Year" list as the top Alternative Powerplant vehicle. The HPA award reflects the unique and distinctive preferences and needs of the influential Hispanic population in the U.S., with jurors selected by invitation only following strict criteria, including years of experience, demonstrated knowledge of vehicle technology, and proof of audience. "Kia has undergone a dramatic brand transformation over the past three years, including the addition of our first-ever hybrid model in the U.S., and the Hispanic Motor Press Association's recognition of the Optima Hybrid is further evidence of Kia's unprecedented growth in the market," said Michael Sprague, vice president of marketing & communications, Kia Motors America (KMA). "More and more consumers are looking at Kia for the first time, and Optima Hybrid's 'Top 10 Cars of the Year' designation demonstrates how Kia is reaching new audiences, including the important and growing Hispanic community." Each year, members of the HMPA recognize the most impressive new vehicles in 10 categories: American sports car, American sedan, premium car, convertible, SUV, CUV, minivan, pick-up and alterative powerplant. Vehicles are evaluated on safety, quality, value, performance, design, style, environmental impact and technology standards. "This is a car company that keeps impressing us, and the new Rio was a finalist in the compact category as well. The Optima Hybrid cleverly incorporates powertrain, infotainment , design elements and technology which make it a great all-around value package," said Ricardo Rodriguez-Long, HMPA jury director. About the 2012 Optima Hybrid The 2012 Kia Optima Hybrid stands apart from the crowd with its class-leading 40 miles per gallon highway fuel efficiency, class-leading combined horsepower of 206.22, eye-catching style, impressive, modern amenities, and long list of standard safety features. Blake Griffin Shows His Cool in Two New 2012 Kia Optima Ads
Because of the NBA lockout, we won’t be hearing Blake Griffin’s sneakers squeaking on the basketball court anytime soon, but we can hear him give some great advice regarding the 2012 Kia Optima.
Earlier this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the towering basketball player made an appearance in a custom basketball-themed Optima. Together, he and Kia’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Michael Sprague, introduced two new spots that feature the sly and cunning Griffin talk about Kia’s UVO system and its safety ratings.
Griffin first became the face of Kia when he leaped over the hood of a 2012 Optima for a slam dunk, which allowed him to win the 2011 Slam Dunk Contest. Chances are if the lockout continues, we’ll see much more of Griffin in future Kia promotional materials…

Introducing the Ray, a Unique Box-car for Seoulites
Kia released images of a new compact vehicle that will be available only in Korea, its home market.
Its name is derived from the English word meaning “a beam of radiant energy or light.” The Ray city car offers practicality, individuality and innovative design in one box-shaped exterior. Don’t be fooled by its small size, the interior is spacious and highly versatile, providing maximized passenger and cargo space.
The Ray’s front features the signature Kia grille with a unique side glass configuration and LED daytime running lights that enhance the vehicle’s aesthetic appeal and distinct character. Its rear has a wide and stable stance, with sleek LED rear combination lamps and vertical bumper reflectors.
The Ray also has a very convenient sliding door on the passenger side, making it easier for passengers to enter and exit in tight parking spaces (a must in Korea as the parking spaces here are small and narrow) while providing a wide side opening for maximum cargo utility.
